What version is right for you?
Easy Green Screen free is good if you are just doing a few extractions here and there. Overall, it does a good job but it does have fewer features than the pro version of the software.
The pro version is geared towards professionals. The added features help with better spill suppression, cleaner masks, better blending by using edge shadowing, as well as batch processing. Additionally, the pro version of the software extracts blue and cyan colored screens.
The Easy Green Screen free version is licensed for personal use. The pro version is licensed for commercial use.
Easy Green Screen Pro has been optimized to handle a wide range of screen colors and brightness. It can handle hues from about 70-280. The software's extraction algorithm will adjust itself based on the image conditions. The chroma key extractions are based on separation in the RGB channel values. For the case of a cyan screen (hue of 180), the green and blue channels will be approximately the same values. For this occurrence, the algorithm will automatically switch itself into cyan mode and the mask will be created differently to still enable a good extraction. The user also has the colors, lights, and dark levels which can be adjusted. Because EGS builds the mask with both color and luminous information, dark or bright screen can often be extracted very well.

Blue screen removal works the same as green screen removal. Also, the blue screen mode will also adjust itself to extract cyan tones as well based on the color of the screen. This works really well for extracting hues down to 180 or even lower. not only will it extract chroma blue, it will also extract a blue sky quite nicely.
The pro version give you the ability to control the extraction settings for 2 different areas of the mask independent from each other. You can choose to do a single mask extraction or a dual mask extraction. By making a quick lasso selection of the hair before running EGS, it will automatically run a dual mask extraction. The area inside of the selection is the hair mask and is controlled separately. This way, you can use different extraction setting for the hair than for the rest of the image. The hair can be made to have more detail and the rest of the image can be made to have clean, crisp edges.
The spill removal system in the pro version give complete control of how the spill correction is being applied. In addition to the spill correction opacity, there are also 2 sliders that control the spill color range. These sliders adjust the range of color that is affected by the spill removal. The is very handy for instances where the spill correction is affecting the color of the clothing. For this example, the range of color can be narrowed. There is independent control for the warms tones (skin and hair) and the cool tones (cyan and blues).
The user can set default extraction settings. These settings are used whenever the filter is ran. In addition, an unlimited number of presets can be saved. The presets are accessed in a dropdown menu and will automatically set all of the settings to the stored values.
Its often helpful to slightly soften the mask to get rid of hard edges. EGS pro allows the user to blur the mask. The blur is kept nondestructive until the user applies the filter. The values can be changed or the blur can be removed prior to the filter being applied.
Sometimes chroma key lighting can be too flat and the subject won't look quite right in the background. Adding in edge shadowing give the image depth and the lighting will often look more natural. Also, brightly lit screens can sometimes cause a haloing effect on the edges if if the foreground is placed into a dark background. The edge shadow really helps to blend the foreground into a darker background.
With the pro version, it can be recorded into an action and the action will store the extraction settings. When the action is played, it will bypass the green/blue extraction choice and user interface. It will use the values that were recorded for the extraction. You can record "1 click" actions that have settings tuned to your studio conditions. These actions can be batch processed. If you shoot a series of images with the same camera and lighting conditions then the batch process will work very well with an action tuned to those conditions.
You can now zoom and and pan in Easy Green Screen pro. Panning works with most hardware and software configurations. However it is not compatible with all systems. You can download the trial version to see if panning works with your system. Even if your system is not compatible with panning, everything else will be compatible and you can still get really good extractions.
